Jesus arrives in Jerusalem and goes to the Temple only to find sacrificial animals and coin changers taking up space that was meant for "all the nations" to come and worship. Jesus clears the way to make this possible and in doing so reveals the corruption in religion, His authority, and God's desire for true worship. Jesus also shifts the focus from the physical Temple to the focus of His own body as the place where God and man encounter one another.

Introduction: Disappointment Upon Arrival

When was the last time you showed up for something and it was either WAY below expectations or it was closed? That scene in National Lampoon’s Summer Vacation comes to mind whenever I think about something like this… a cross country trip filled with all sorts of disasters and disasters avoided only to park in an empty parking lot (as you begin to think - “something isn’t right here”), the family begins to run toward the ticket gate with anticipation, only to find Wally the Moose standing in front of the gate with a giant “CLOSED” sign.
